Everyday Makeup: Simple and Fresh
My go-to makeup look is streamlined, minimal, natural and always involves a bit of glow. I'm all for making my skin look hydrated and dewy while keeping the rest of the face simple and accentuating my eyes and eyebrows. Here are some examples of my everyday look:
Simple and Fresh Faced
Major Highlight
Healthy Glow
For this post, I've compiled a list of the beauty and makeup items that I currently use to achieve my simple, natural look. All of the products that I use are POC friendly and will accommodate my readers with darker complexions.
Moisturizer

I start with the Kiehl's Ultra facial moisturizer with SPF 30 as my moisturizing base. I love this product because it makes my face super soft. It is a bit oily in consistency but I like it because it provides a good base for the rest of the products adds a nice glow to the skin.
Lightweight Foundation
mac
Next, I apply my Mac Next to Nothing Face Colourin the shade Dark Plus. I use a beauty blender to blend the product seamlessly into my skin. This product is definitely for those who like very light coverage as it's truly a skin tint made to even out the skin tone, not to cover. If I'm breaking out or feel like I need a bit more coverage, I go over the skin tint with Maybelline Dewy and Smooth Foundation in the shade 330 Toffee. This provides medium coverage and melts beautifully into the skin.
Tinted Brow Gel

While I let my face makeup set, I get to work on my eyebrows. Glossier's boy browis by far my favorite eyebrow product. This tinted brow gel has a cult following and for good reason: it's easy to apply and super pigmented so a little goes a long way. I use the brown shade and apply it by sweeping it through my brows and cleaning it up with a Q-tip.
Lengthening Mascara
Mascara is something that I cannot live without. It opens up the eyes and adds a little bit of necessary drama. I use Maybelline's Lash Sensational in the brown shade for a natural yet lengthened look. Drugstore mascaras are truly the way to go and Maybelline by far has the best. If I want to intensify, I go for the same mascara but in the waterproof formula in the shade noir.
Blush and Highlight
Last but certainly not least, lips! I do love a dark brown lip every now and again but for an everyday look, I'm always down for a neutral gloss. I prep my lips with Smith's Rosebud Salve and then apply Glossier's Lip Gloss for an ultra-shiny finish.
That my friends is my super simple, everyday makeup routine that takes no longer than 5 minutes to achieve. I've provided links to all the products mentioned. Let me know if you'd like me to do an in-depth tutorial on how I use these products.
*Something that I constantly remind myself is that makeup should be about enhancing what you've got, not hiding. I like to have fun with it. On days where I'm feeling self-conscious, remind myself that beauty is more than just clear skin and perfect facial proportions. It's very easy for young women, especially young women of color to feel as though their beauty is invalidated by what is sensationalized and deemed beautiful in the media.Beauty is undefinable. Stop searching for the definition.
