Thanks, It's Vintage

Picture this: you see a girl wearing the most amazing jacket you've ever seen in your life. You quickly go up to her, tell her that you love the jacket and ask her where she purchased it. "Thanks, it's vintage," the girl replies. Vintage...that means old right? Or thrifted? When Regina George called that one girl's vintage skirt 'adorable' and then proceeded to tell Cady that it was "the ugliest effing skirt I've ever seen" the word 'vintage' seemed less than acceptable. So what does 'vintage' actually mean?According to about.com, vintage clothing is considered any garment that is at least 20 to 100 years old and is clearly representative of the era in which it was produced. Vintage clothing can be used, come from something called "dead stock"(mass produced garments that never got around to being sold on the market and were left to age in storage units until they became outdated) or even brand new pieces made to resemble clothing styles of the past. Vintage clothing is very easily accessible and chances are, you may have some vintage pieces in your home right at this very moment.When I came across a few of my Dad's old leather jackets in my attic, I wondered if they'd be considered vintage. How cool would it be if I could be the owner of some authentic vintage leather? I googled the term and was happy to discover that the jackets were indeed vintage. Not gonna lie, I feel pretty cool saying that I have vintage pieces :) I mean I think its pretty obvious as I've said the word 'vintage' about fifty times by now. Okay, enough of that word. Here's how I styled the first jacket I found:

I wanted to create a laid back look that really showcased the jacket so I threw on my favorite distressed overalls with a grey turtleneck underneath. My only jewelry was a small pendant necklace and I pulled on my trusty Doc Marten's Chelsea boots to finish off the look. I feel like this outfit would have definitely been worn by the cool kids on the block back in the day.
