Chic Academia: A Casual Blazer Look

IMG_7148.jpeg

Over the past 10 or so months, I’ve had quite a bit of time to think about what I would wear if I could go out and do stuff. What kind of stuff would you be doing, Morgan? Like all kinds of stuff, thanks for asking. Like going on a sushi and sake date at a trendy upscale joint Or heading to a picnic in the park with when it’s super sunny but still a little chilly. Or perhaps having brunch with friends at a bougie restaurant that quickly turns into an impromptu photoshoot. Yeah honey, I’ve got looks for all dat.

While being holed up in each of the many rooms that I’ve occupied over this period, I’ve successfully crafted outfits for virtually every occasion that could ever possibly arise in my life and some, admittedly, for instances that may never come to fruition. I mean unless I decide to throw a denim-themed cocktail party, I’m not sure my Canadian tuxedo, platform heels and faux-diamond chandelier earrings look will ever quite fit any specific vibe but hey, a gal can dream, right?

While it is very entertaining to let my imagination run wild and dream up situations that call for very specific and eccentric looks, it’s also fun to think about the things I can wear once this panini has died down.

The look I’m sharing with you today is one such outfit. She’s wearable, she’s easy, she’s trendy, she’s timeless. Let’s get into her.

This look gives me all the instagram blogger-girl realness with a touch of dark academia sophistication. That’s probably an oxymoron since dark academia is an aesthetic born of TikTok. I am too old for this internet stuff.

What I really dig about this look is how well the different fabrics complement each other. The Gildan sweatshirt provides the comfy, casual bit while the J. Crew wool blazer gives us some structure and pattern. Finally, these Reformation trousers fit just snug enough to be sassy but still somehow feel relaxed and effortless. I think we all know now that effortless is my all-time favorite outfit descriptor so if I use it, you know I’m feelin it.

Now I don’t usually toot my own horn (says the girl with two instagram accounts and a whole website devoted to her style) but I must say, I nailed the dressed-down trouser trend with this look. These pants are an excellent alternative to jeans when you want to feel just a little more polished. I’m looking forward to styling them with tank tops and sneakers come spring time. The 90’s, New. York City career woman who changes into her heels at the office vibes will be heavy on my instagram. Just you wait.

I kept accessories very simple with my Mejuri earrings, my trusty Bershka Collection crossbody bag and my Dr. Marten platform oxfords to finish off the outfit. The accessories totally make this look.
