Morganify x BigFitsNYC
One of my favorite things about New York City is its spontaneity. With so many photographers, artists, actors, dancers and other creatives roaming the streets, it’s easy to be inspired by those around you.
Just this past Friday, I was strolling through SoHo with friends when a street style photographer approached us and asked to photograph our outfits.
When getting dressed that day, I was (naturally) feeling a little extra and in need of some color. I decided to pair two of my favorite statement pieces to satisfy my need to feel colorful, bold and experimental. My pink, wide-brim fedora and my faux snakeskin puffer coat are two items that I find stand out on their own but complement each other quite well when worn together. I really enjoy the soft, rosy color palette that resulted from pairing them together.
I kept the rest of the outfit very simple. I wore my relaxed-fit Reformation denim, a white button down, a sleeveless turtleneck and my Nike Air Force 1s. I find that wearing a simple base allows for the statement items to shine in contrast.
My mismatched vintage gold earrings and my Matt&Nat Rees satchel provide simplistic and chic punctuation to this look. The earrings and slight sheen in the satchel pick up the luster of the jacket. It’s the small details that really tie a look like this one together.
I’d like to say thank you to Jack for stopping me to take these beautiful photos. Be sure to check out his instagram page @BigFitsNYC. He posted my outfit photos along with a small comment from me on why I love fashion: “What I like most about fashion is how it’s the most outward expression of your personality. As a black woman, people automatically make assumptions about who I am. I feel that my personal style gives me the agency to present myself on my own terms. Also, it’s fun to be creative and see just how extra I can be. It’s kind of like my own personal art exhibition.”
Thank you for reading. Stay tuned for more outfit posts.
